The Granite City Of Aberdeen, Scotland.....

It was actually while applying for a house sitting position in Spain where I first heard mention of Aberdeen. The homeowner we interviewed with via video chat is from Aberdeen but spends much of her time in Spain too. At the time I filed the word in the back of my mind not knowing that someday in our future we'd be visiting the lovely city.

Sights Around The City Of Aberdeen, Scotland

Today we set out to do some exploring and one town led to another and before we knew it Aberdeen was not much further. Famous for it's gray granite, Aberdeen is a port city in northeast Scotland where the Dee and Don Rivers meet the North Sea. The inner city buildings sparkle when the sun reflects off the iridescent crystals embedded in the natural granite stone. Massive ships sat in waiting in the port as the heavy sea winds tossed them around.

Nearby on the vacant sandy beaches we could almost see the scantily clad sunbathers basking in the summer sun. But for now the ghosts of summer will keep their coats on while the cold, rough waters crash against the rugged cliffs along the shore.

Although today's temperature was 52 degrees the heavy 25 mph hours winds made it feel much colder. We walked around the city taking in its architectural beauty, statues, churches and other delights. Before heading back to our house sit we stopped to warm up in a café with some warm drinks and a snack.

These Sheep Were All Lined Up

On our way back we noticed a sign for Glamis Castle and detoured off the road a few miles to check it out. Considered to be one of the most beautiful castles in Scotland it is unfortunately closed for the winter. The castle was the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, wife of King George VI. Their second daughter Princess Margaret was born there. The castle dates back to the 14th century and is currently the home of the Earl and Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne.

Scotland is a full of gorgeous scenery that includes open farmland, rugged mountains, waterfront vistas, castles, palaces, and plenty of sheep. Everywhere we look we see bright green fields of grass filled with flowers of yellow, purple, white and blue. And as we drove along I noticed the brightest blue sky I'd ever seen on the horizon. Below the blueness were layers of puffy white clouds that hovered above gray clouds giving the sky a triple layered effect of vivid color.  Ah the beauty that is all around us that we are so fortunate to see as we travel the world house sitting......along the gringo trail.

Terry and Clyde are able to "Travel The World House Sitting"  and so can you!  We have created a website to help people who want to learn about house sitting.    Information for both the prospective house sitter and for someone who needs a house sitter.
